Where’s the Best Place to Host Online Video’s

Michael SimmonsThe Web is changing, and sometimes that almost seems like a daily occurrence. Today’s Internet looks very different than even the Internet of several years ago. Certainly one of the biggest changes has been the virtual explosion of online video.

But with the popularity of uploading video to the web, inevitably comes the question; “where do I host my video?” The short answer would be YouTube

While most people will look to YouTube as the most logical choice, there are other sites and alternatives to consider. If your using video to market your business, then careful consideration on where the video is placed must be part of the equation.

First , let’s look at why YouTube is the best place to at least start hosting all your videos. There are several factors that weigh into this:

  1. YouTube is Free, you pay nothing for hosting or streaming
  2. YouTube is easy to use, simply upload your video using their online up-loader then copy and paste the supplied code to embed or link to the video
  3. YouTube is popular, commanding anywhere from 60-70% of all video traffic watched on the Web
  4. YouTube is owned by Google, which doesn’t hurt when your marketing your services/products and hoping to get as much exposure on their search engine as possible

The fact that YouTube commands such a large percentage of the web video watching audience, also contributes to the fact that if someone is searching for video content, YouTube is where they go to do so.  As the web changes from a stoic platform to one of more user interaction, searching for video content to answer questions and find services/products is becoming more and more popular.

OK, so YouTube is logically the place to start, are there any other sites that will help with your online video marketing strategy? Most definitely. Here are several that we use on a regular basis:

Yahoo! Video-while only a 2.1% share of the video watching market in the US, that still equates to over 45 million unique views per month http://video.yahoo.com

Veoh-mainly concentrates on broadcast video, however also includes user generated content and a very good optimization program for publishers www.veoh.com

MySpace video-utilizing the Social Networks vast membership http://vids.myspace.com

Even if you don’t post your video to those sites, there is one other reason to be keenly aware of content from and comments on them. That is to find what is known as “opinion leaders” who have high value in rating and commenting on videos. You want to identify and connect with as many of those leaders as possible, as video optimization  is dependent on not only how many watch your video but who.

To sum it up, place your video on at least YouTube and one other site. Make sure you have the video titled correctly (use your keyword!), a live link in your description back to your website (start with the http://), and use tags (keywords) that people use to search for your products and services.

Once you start marketing with video, you’ll come to realize that the next generation of Internet Marketing is here to stay. Keep refining and developing your strategy, and you will reap the benefits for years to come.
